Joel Dommett has come a long way since he landed a place on I’m A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! in 2016. The stand-up comedian charmed the nation to finish as runner-up to Scarlett Moffatt.

Since then, the 36-year-old’s career rise has been meteoric and his latest coup is hosting the National Television Awards live on ITV on Thursday 9 September.

Joel married model Hannah Cooper in 2019 and with hit shows The Masked Singer and The Masked Dancer among his credits, he tells new that life couldn’t be better. And thanks to his long career in stand-up, here he reveals how nothing fazes him any more.

Congratulations! How did you celebrate when you heard you’d be hosting the NTAs?

Honestly, I am so boring. I don’t really celebrate something until it’s done, in case things go in the wrong direction. Once I say, “This has been the NTA Awards 2021”, I’ll celebrate. I might have one beer or a glass of wine with my wife. I don’t drink much. It’s not my vibe, which is interesting because the stand-ups who came before me were indulgent and we were the first generation who weren’t. We were sat with our notebooks out thinking, “What if I change that punchline?”
