‘Rochelle's confidence has been knocked'

Rochelle Humes was devastated after receiving death threats last year, but the TV presenter is now trying to move on

Rochelle Humes has revealed she received death threats last year, after she announced she would be presenting a documentary about Black women dying in childbirth.

Breaking her silence last week, the 32-year-old told how she found herself at the centre of a colourism row in February 2021, amid claims she had “replaced” Black author Candice Brathwaite to front the show. This sparked a debate on social media about whether darker skinned Black women are treated differently to lighter skinned Black and mixed race women.

Rochelle, whose mother is white and whose father is of Jamaican descent, admitted she was left “beside myself, devastated” at the time of the backlash. A source close to the star has told us that it took a lot for her to speak out about the incident, as the disturbing messages have had a longlasting effect on her.
