Cartier revealed two new members to the Drive de Cartier family at SIHH earlier this year. Like their 2016 siblings, the timepieces are sophisticated, stylish, powerful and impressive – some of the best men’s watches the brand has made
WHEN CARTIER FIRST released the Drive de Cartier in 2016, it marked a monumental moment in the brand’s mechanical watchmaking history. The piece was hailed by critics and journalists across the world as one of the best men’s timepieces the brand ever produced, praising its sleek, masculine design and impressive mechanical movements. More than a few writers, in fact, said it was the Cartier watch they had all been waiting for.
Inspired by vintage automotive designs – a guilloché dial mimicking radiator grills and a crown emulating the bolts that hold a car together – the watch was aimed squarely at men, but not just any men: sophisticated men. It was built for men with independent minds and a keen sense of fashion – the type of people who saunter through life looking effortlessly chic and masculine.
By every measure, the release was a home run.
