In 1966, Julie Williams was a rebellious teenager when she met the older David Martin. The two fell hard for each other and planned to elope, but hit a snag when Julie’s granddad Tom, who suspected something was going on, gave her a lecture about her choices in love. Julie thought about what she was doing and told David that she couldn’t go through with the wedding. Heartbroken, David drowned his sorrows and ran into Susan Martin, Julie’s bestie, who was also feeling low. The two ended up in David’s car and made love. Susan soon learned she was pregnant, and she and David agreed to a marriage of convenience where they would give the baby up for adoption, then divorce. Because Julie and David were still in love, she fled to Europe to visit her parents so she wouldn’t have to deal with David and Susan’s sham of a relationship. Susan went into premature labor and gave birth to the baby via C-section. Julie returned to be by her friend’s side, but the friendship would soon be over. Susan decided that she didn’t want to give the baby up for adoption and insisted that she and David go through with their plans to marry and take care of him. Julie and David continued to see each other on the sly, but David found himself spending more time with his son. One day, David took the baby, nicknamed Dickie, outside in the backyard and put him in a swing . When David was lost in a train of thought , thinking about Julie and Susan, the baby fell out of the swing and was injured. A few days later, Dickie died. A destroyed Susan blamed David and lost it, shooting and killing David. The final twist: Julie was pregnant with David’s child.
