The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency
Season 1 Wednesday (from 8 July)
SABC2 (*192) 21:30
Be it infidelity, child abduction, or fraud, Precious Ramotswe (Jill Scott, Hazel in comedy series First Wives Club, 2019-now) solves mundane mysteries in her city after she launches Botswana’s first and only PI company in drama series The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency (2008-2009). “Mma Ramotswe, as she’s referred to by the locals, is warm and likeable. She is also revolutionary, considering that there aren’t any female detectives in her country,” explains Jill.
What Mma Ramotswe lacks in experience, she makes up in intelligence and intuitive skills: Precious is a critical thinker, with a knack for reading people and she pays attention to detail. Nothing gets past her. “Mma Ramotswe is more concerned with achieving some sort of resolution between the parties involved than cracking the case. She embodies many of the women that I came across while filming the drama show in Botswana – she is sweet and smart. It’s amazing to me that an entire culture of people can be so generous with their energy and spirit,” adds the 49-year-old Jill.
