Breaking New Ground
Season 7 Thursdays SABC2 (*192) 22:00
Life around the world has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, but closer to home people have struggled through hardships for decades. Lifestyle doccie series Breaking New Ground (2008-now) continues to showcase Government’s attempts to provide basic needs for citizens (including low-cost housing, water and sanitation). For season 7, the show has brought in Nimrod Nkosi, a man who’s trusted by the country to take over the difficult task from long-time host Eric Miyeni. Viewers will recognise Nimrod from his time on iconic music quizshow Jam Alley (19942001), hosting the national lottery live draw (2003-2017) and lifestyle reunion show Utatako (2014-now).
NEW CHALLENGE, SAME RESPONSIBILITY
Nimrod has been around the block in SA’s television industry but he doesn’t see his new role as being more important than any of his previous work despite the topic of helping people.“I can’t call this my most important work. Every piece of work that I do is important,” says the host. “What we as society need to understand is that issues surrounding our fellow citizens is important and should be prioritised. Especially when it comes to housing and water and sanitation. This makes up the whole person in terms of what the Government is supposed to give to them.”
