It’s been three years since Dua Lipa burst onto the scene with ‘New Rules’, which quickly skyrocketed her to global fame. But the London-born 25-year-old has proved she’s no one-hit wonder, dropping her new album Future Nostalgia earlier this year to eagerly awaiting fans who devoured it as quickly as they did her first.
The album is sheer disco-pop perfection and while she had never intended to release it during the start of a worldwide pandemic, her early plans for it seemed to be right on the money. “[I wanted to do] an album that was really fun and made me wanna dance, and removed the outside world,” she told The Guardian in March. Not many albums have fulfilled their intended purpose faster.
Getting her fans through some very tough lockdowns all over the world, the singer has also backed up the huge success of her second album with Club Future Nostalgia – her newly-released remix album that she developed and curated with Gwen Stefani, Missy Elliot and the queen of pop herself, Madonna. “It was the perfect opportunity to create something like this,” Lipa explains. “I had what felt like all the time in the world, and everyone’s at home. It doesn’t really happen so often that you get the opportunity to collaborate with all these incredible producers and artists.”
How has the pandemic affected you releasing new music?
Usually, to promote my record, I would be travelling a lot. I would be going to lots of different cities and countries but instead I’m having to just do it all from home. I’m learning new ways to connect with my fans and my listeners. We’re all in this together.
