King Gajraj, the elephant ruled the forest of Sarasvan in Karnataka.
One day, he received news that Malu, the monkey, and his family, who hailed from Rajasthan, wanted to meet him.
Gajraj invited them to his court and enquired about the purpose of their visit.
“Greetings, Your Highness. We are traditional puppeteers who have been practising this art for many generations. It used to be a popular form of entertainment in Rajasthan and other parts of India. Gradually, over the years its popularity has decreased,” said Malu sadly.
“We came to know that you are a patron of traditional Indian arts and respect the art and its artists. So, we came to you hoping that you would offer your support and encouragement to this dying art form,” added Malu’s wife, Mili.
“You have come to the right place,” said Gajraj, smiling at them. “Please tell me more about your art.”
