The history of the elevator - a platform that carries people or things up and down, is an ancient one. In 336 B.C, the Romans used open elevators that were pulled up and down manually by men or animals.

In the 18 th century King Louis XV, used the ‘flying chair’ to carry him from floor to floor in his palace at Versailles.
