Half a century of Batman movies

50 years of Batman

It’s been 50 years since the masked vigilante from Gotham made his first appearance on screen, and it has been an incredible journey. The Batman movies have observed huge disappointments *cough*Batman and Robin*cough* whereas it has also witnessed impressive characterisations such as the iconic role of The Joker played by Heath Ledger (while some may argue that Jack Nicholson’s role in Batman also deserves the same appreciation). The intention behind this story is to pay a tribute to all those movies and what better way than going on a Batman movie marathon. Here’s a list of all the movies that built Batman’s legacy through 50 years, alongside the comic book universe.

Batman (1966)

The first Batman movie to hit the theatres, the franchise was already seeing a lot of positive responses after a successful run on TV. It’s unlikely that you’ve watched this movie considering how old it is. The effects and dialogues look incredibly silly in contrast to the movies we see today. You will however recognise the popular Batman song “nananananana Batman!”, and the quirky text animations of “Pow”, “Bam”, “Zap” etc. Adam West donned the role of Batman, who also played the same role in the TV show.
