Hue is an indie platform puzzle game that uses color &mdash; hence the name &mdash; as the core part of the puzzles and challenges. You&rsquo;re faced with barriers, blocks and threats of various kinds, each with its own distinctive color. To surmount these challenges you&rsquo;ll need to pick from the appropriate segment of a color wheel, something you must fill up with color segments as you progress. The first you&rsquo;ll find is blue; picking this makes blue objects vanish &mdash; removing barriers, dropping boulders on your head (not so good, obviously), and so on. The next color is purple, and the challenges start requiring a little more strategic thought &mdash; not to mention occasional dexterity when faced with timing jumps the moment you release boulders as you stand over an array of lethal spikes. You get the idea.Playing Hue with a dedicated game controller is recommended, and it does make some of the action easier. The traditional inverted-T&nbsp;ASDW&nbsp;keys, with the Shift key for grabbing things and the Spacebar to jump,&nbsp;are quite usable, but as you progress through the game you&rsquo;ll find being a keyboard warrior only adds to the difficulty.The game concept is slightly surreal, with its use of color the foundation concept that everything is based on. You&rsquo;ll encounter characters that tell you snippets of information and the occasional message written by your mother to your character (like the game itself, you&rsquo;re also called Hue) as you go, relating a curious, dream-like backstory, giving context and a sense of purpose for your quest.The unfolding story can feel a little slow if you&rsquo;re more of a shoot-&rsquo;em-up fan, as this is totally the other end of the gaming spectrum from Call Of Duty. Hang on in there though, as Hue builds and becomes more involving. It&rsquo;s challenging too, although not to the point of being completely infuriating.It&rsquo;s good to see Hue make it to the Mac, as it&rsquo;s been available for both&nbsp;PS4&nbsp;and Xbox since 2016. As far as platform games go it&rsquo;s not particularly sophisticated, but it is a clever and entertaining challenge that lasted for far more hours than we expected.THE BOTTOM LINE.&nbsp;A clever platform puzzler that uses color for its challenges, building in complexity as you progress.
