One by one, Amazon has been refreshing its range of Fire tablets. We got a new Fire HD 8 late in 2018, a new Fire 7 last spring and now, finally, the one we’ve been waiting for: a third generation of the Fire HD 10, last updated back in 2017. This is an important milestone because there aren’t many quality budget tablets around and this is as large and as powerful as Amazon’s tablets get.
Improvements and pricing
While the 2019 Fire 7 makes do with a 1.3GHz quad-core processor and a lonely 1GB of memory, the new Fire HD 10 not only gets double the memory but also double the cores and a faster clock speed. Its full HD 1,920 x 1,200-pixels screen falls far short of an iPad’s but, for a budget device, it’s a champion.
The Fire HD 10 costs £149.99 for the 32GB version or £179.99 for the 64GB one. Given that either option can add a microSD card of up to 512GB, you’re probably best off saving your money and going for the cheaper model. Those prices include Amazon ads you can pay an extra £10 to get one “without special offers”, which we think is well worth the money.
