Resi 2 May Have Got All The Plaudits, But Onimusha: Warlords Is A 2019 Capcom Remaster Worth Playing

Alex Nelson
Onimusha: Warlords
Early 2019 was dominated by talk around Capcom’s excellent reimagining of its 1998 classic, Resident Evil 2. But while everyone was blasting off zombie heads, I was indulging myself in Capcom’s other January 2019 remaster, Onimusha: Warlords. Overshadowed by Resi 2’s slick new coat of paint, the reappearance of this 2001’s PlayStation 2 classic flew well under the radar. Granted, it’s not a full-on remake like that of Resi. There’s no 2019 update to the game’s format or mechanics (the divisive fixed camera angles of the original remain).

No, this is a faithful remaster of the series’ first game, presented as it was 15 years ago, with nothing but a sharpening up of the textures for a crisp, modern HD finish. Cringe-worthy voice acting be damned!
