… but Anne’s really turning the heat up on those who scorn all young people as ‘snowflakes’
I’M more than a bit fed up with all this talk of our sons and daughters being the ‘Snowflake Generation’. I don’t think it’s true at all – and merely exposes those who are saying so as an old fogeys who are out of touch and unaware of what it’s like to be a young millennial trying to make your way in this pretty harsh 21st century, and who lack basic human empathy.
First let’s understand what a disgusting insult the word snowflake is in this context. It refers to children raised in ways that give them an inflated sense of their own uniqueness, and implies that they are too easily offended, and simply don’t have the backbone of their parents to deal with life’s hardships.
Well, show me an older generation that hasn’t always said that about their kids! And yet, whenever the world has challenged them, young men and women have always stepped up – often to their great and tragic cost. We should think before we label our kids so cruelly.
