If you like your art bright and cheery and colourful, then head to Ocean Studios at Plymouth’s Royal William Yard this month, for the first exhibition by the four founder members of the newly launched Plymouth Colour Collective.
The idea for the collective came from Brian Pollard and Arth Lawr, who held their hugely successful 2 Naive in Plymouth exhibition at Ocean Studios two years ago only the Grayson Perry exhibition in 2015 has enjoyed more visitors to the gallery.
Brian and Arth invited two other Plymouth artists, Laura Edmunds and Lou C Fused Glass to join them in the collective and they are now looking to expand the group. Brian explained: “Arth and I wanted to have a group of similar artists, a group formed by invitation, of artwork we like and which fits in. We were both looking around and we really like the work of Laura and Lou, and so the Plymouth Colour Collective was born.”
Their Naive 4 Plymouth exhibition runs at Ocean Studios from 31 March to 26 April. It has around 60 pieces of artwork: fused glass art by Lou, pictures made entirely of beach finds by Laura, and acrylic paintings by Brian and Arth. Especially for this exhibition, all four have created a picture to mark Mayflower 400.
