Nearly two decades on from a goal-laden loan spell with AFC Bournemouth as a teenager, Fletch’s former teammate Jermain Defoe is back weaving his magic at the Vitality Stadium
AS SOON as Eddie Howe became aware of Jermain Defoe’s availability, when his contract at Sunderland ended this summer, we were really keen to sign him. As well as being a proven goal scorer with a wealth of Premier League experience, Jermain’s dedication and professionalism is something that really appealed to our manager.
When Jermain was last at Bournemouth, on loan from West Ham United during the 2000-01 season, I had te privilege of playing up front with him in many matches. What really struck me about Jermain then was how hard he worked both on and off the pitch. Since he has been back at the club, it’s almost as if he hasn’t been away. Despite everything he has achieved in the game since he last played for us, the desire and will to be the best is still the same at 34 years of age as it was when he was 17.
