Great Crested Grebes

WITH the dawn chorus in full swing each morning and fox and badger cubs emerging from their dens, spring has definitely arrived in Hampshire. One of the best places to watch the season in action is by our lakes and rivers, where great crested grebes are midway through their magnificent mating season. With ornate head feathers of bronze and chestnut, the great crested grebe is most recognisable for the black crest bristling along its crown like a mohican.
