Life in lockdown

Here’s a story from the early days of the lockdown: laugh or cry, as you choose. My own reaction could have been philosophical or Basil Fawlty. I chose the former.

It concerns one of our new shared obsessions: online grocery shopping. At van Schaick Towers, we’d held out against the trend for years – preferring to squeeze our own melons, as it were, rather than have a picker do it for us. But as the crisis restrictions closed in, we were left with little option. I found myself signing up. It’s a laborious process to start with, isn’t it? There’s a lot of scrolling through to compile your list.
