For more than 70 years Watersfield’s Lodge Hill Centre has been changing the lives of the young people going through its doors. DUNCAN HALL finds out more
Hidden away in the South Downs in the former home of a Victorian London solicitor is an activity centre which changes lives.
Since 1946, when the building was bought by West Sussex County Council, Lodge Hill has provided educational opportunities for young people, giving challenges outside of the home or school environment. The recently relaunched Challenge U programme also helps young offenders, or those at risk of offending, to get their lives back on track.
And now the centre in Watersfield, near Pulborough, is launching a new £800,000 fundraising appeal to extend their facilities to allow even more young people and families to enjoy the Lodge Hill experience across its 32 acres of private woodland.
