So finally, after 42 years of waiting we get another glorious summer like the one of 1976.
The day it ended back then Biblical rain fell on everyone’s parade, including the posh society wedding I was attending, which within minutes looked like a refugee camp.
But this year we didn’t have to wait for rain to wipe out our parades, Nanny Britain did it instead. The Government issued warnings for us all to stay indoors because of high temperatures. Are none of the health and safety geniuses in Whitehall – who are being paid, out of our hard-earned taxes to spew out tosh like this – aware that at least once a year half our nation jets off in search of the sun and 95°F temperatures? Perhaps the next time we have a heatwave we should all gather on a beach, dig a massive hole in the sand and dump these idiots up to their necks into it.
