A town centre nightclub is now an Elim church following a radical conversion. Arlette Frampton found out more about how an £80,000 investment is already paying dividends in its community.
The Beacon Community Church, in Burntwood, had no home for over a decade after outgrowing its former premises. The faithful congregation had been meeting in different halls for several years until the No 7 club came available a couple of years ago.
The pastor, Sandy McMeekin, says, “When I arrived at Beacon in 2011 we were meeting in a local high school hall. But to be frank, it often felt like we weren’t welcome. As we grew and pressures increased on school resources we knew we needed to find our own footprint.
“The nightclub was situated in the heart of the town. We knew it was the perfect location for us to put our roots down and to begin to minster out off. Beacon Community Church stands where an infamous nightclub once stood. We see it as a hub, a place to begin to plant out from and to resource and bless our town.
“Our vision is to reach out to the people of Burntwood, to raise up disciples and to send out church planters, leaders and ministries. Our new location is the perfect launching pad to achieve that.”
