This dramatic image of the Aurora Borealis was taken by Norwegian photographer Alex&nbsp;Conu&nbsp;from the top of Mount&nbsp;Reinebringen, in the&nbsp;Lofoten&nbsp;Islands to the north of the country. &ldquo;The village you can see in the image is&nbsp;Reine, considered to be the most scenic in Norway,&rdquo; Alex explains. &ldquo;I live in&nbsp;Reine&nbsp;and I go on top of&nbsp;Reinebringen&nbsp;quite often. The day I took the photo, I decided to hike up the mountain in the afternoon, as I knew something&nbsp;was brewing. Besides my degree in photography, I have a BSc in astrophysics, so it&rsquo;s a bit easier for me to forecast Aurora outbursts.&rdquo;&nbsp;Alex had been planning the image for quite a long time. &ldquo;There are lots of images taken from&nbsp;Reinebringen&nbsp;during daytime, but very few taken at night. I&rsquo;ve been waiting for the right conditions for the past two years; actually ever since I moved to&nbsp;Lofoten. I&rsquo;d have liked to have the moon in the sky too, so that the landscape was better lit. But you have to adapt.&rdquo;&nbsp;Alex has some good tips for readers thinking of entering&nbsp;astro-photography&nbsp;competitions. &ldquo;I think the most important thing is to actually understand what you photograph. Nowadays, there are more and more people pointing their cameras at the skies, but not all of them are familiar with the night sky. This can lead to strangely cropped constellations, or not enough emphasis on the celestial event they&rsquo;re trying to photograph.&ldquo;It&rsquo;s also important not to go overboard with post-processing. Try to show the night sky in its natural&nbsp;colours, so don&rsquo;t abuse the Clarity slider in Lightroom!&rdquo;&nbsp;
