This photographer’s early camera experiences led to some of the richest photojournalism of recent times
David Alan Harvey is an acclaimed photojournalist, best known for his long-term projects documenting Latin American culture. A long-time contributor to National Geographic, he has been a full member of Magnum since 1997.
What’s his background?
Harvey was born in San Francisco in 1944 and brought up in Virginia. He started taking pictures aged 11, and later bought a second-hand Leica with his paper-round earnings. He went on to study at the Graduate School of Journalism at the University of Missouri.
