Five Steps To A Happier You
EADT Suffolk|January 2018

Personal and professional coach Jann Richardson explains emotional intelligence and how it can help you to achieve richer and more fulfilling relationships at work and at home

Five Steps To A Happier You

DO you wish you were better equipped to motivate and support your colleagues or your loved ones? Are you confused by the way people react to the things you say or do? Improving your understanding and application of ‘emotional intelligence’ allows you to see improvements in the way people respond to you – and the way you respond to others. Emotional intelligence has been a key component in the way companies develop their leaders for over 20 years. It may sound like a millennial buzz word but, put simply, it’s the skills that help you to manage yourself and your relationships effectively.

Self-awareness

Self-awareness helps you to make an accurate self-assessment which, in turn, gives you greater self-confidence. It’s about knowing your emotions and being tuned into your strengths and weaknesses. By understanding yourself better, you become more aware of people around you, and can better understand their emotions, and adapt your behaviour to suit the situation. This gives you a stronger sense of your worth, and enables you to see where you can add value to a situation or task.
