<p><strong>S</strong>he&#39;s India&#39;s crush. She&#39;s working simultaneously in nation-wide film industries - mainly Telugu and Kannada and, now, Bollywood. She&#39;s flying back and forth amid tight schedules, promotions and shoots. She has an eagerly-awaited movie out this month with stalwarts Amitabh Bachchan and Neena Gupta. And, yet, you&#39;ll find that Rashmika Mandanna is the classic girl-next-door. She loves bingeing on K-dramas in her jammies, gorging on tonnes of ice cream and chocolates, and chilling at home with her friends, family and pet doggos Aura and Snow. Admittedly, that&#39;s not how the life of a star looks on most days. I love my life and I don&#39;t want to wrap my head around the fact that I have this fame, I have all this because I am an actor, she chimes in on a call, en route to another shoot after just wrapping one up. I am just happy where I am and I will just do my job. If you take the camera away from my face, I would be as normal as anyone would be.</p>

<p>For this cover shoot, Rashmika flew down especially to Mumbai for a tight six hours, and then hopped directly on a plane to the Middle East for her work commitments. &#39;Busy&#39; is not a word that she wants to use to describe herself - she rather prefers &#39;working&#39;. It&#39;s been six years since she debuted on the big screen with her 2016 Kannada film Kirik Party. Since then, she has worked in all the major film industries in the South, and is soon to be on screen in the Hindi film Goodbye, which, as mentioned earlier, also stars the powerhouses of the Hindi film industry Amitabh Bachchan and Neena Gupta. Working with Bachchan Sir and Neena Ma&#39;am has been extremely exciting and nerve-wracking at the same time, she tells us. Having to stand next to the legend himself has been an experience. He has so much experience in the industry that you have to make the best use of the opportunity, but, at the same time, you should not be a disappointment (to your co-actor). Recalling moments of shared screen space with the legendary actors, Rashmika adds that Neena Ma&#39;am, incidentally, is exactly who she is (and what we expect of her), making sure the whole crew was comfortable. <p>This isn&#39;t the first time the 26-year-old Rashmika has worked with leading names from the Indian film fraternity. From Allu Arjun to Vijay Deverakonda, and Mahesh Babu to Dulquer Salmaan, Rashmika has been in movies with a rolodex of the brightest and best. She has also been signed opposite Ranbir Kapoor and Sidharth Malhotra for Bollywood releases coming up. For her, though, the crew matters as much as the stars and the script. While signing a movie, I listen to the script, see what the film has to offer, what it has to and what it can deliver, she states. I look at the content and story. Even if it is just for pure entertainment, I make sure that the script has the purpose of entertainment. The next thing that I look at is the people I am working with.</p>

<p>To me, the whole team matters. It all started in 2015, after she won the top model hunt in Bengaluru, which also introduced her to the glam world and the world of Kannada films in subsequent years (Anjani Putra and Chamak, both in 2017). Her first Telugu film was with Naga Shourya - Chalo in 2018, which was made with a three crore budget and raked in an impressive 24 crore. Chalo ran successfully for over 100 days in several Telugu theatres and became one of the highest-grossers of the year, a rich feat for a film in a country that usually moves on to the next release every Friday. Her next film was Geetha Govindam (2018) with Vijay Devarakonda, which brought her much recognition, making her very popular in the Telugu industry, and her next few movies in the language - Devadas, Bheeshma, and Sarileru Neekuevvaru - marked a hat-trick. And, after the release of Pushpa: The Rise in 2021, Rashmika&#39;s popularity hit another level altogether. The mass-y action entertainer, also starring Allu Arjun, was released in December 2021 in Telugu, along with dubbed versions in Malayalam, Hindi, Tamil and Kannada. It had such a wide outreach and mass appeal, and the magic of its songs made its way into every reality show, and onto Instagram reels everywhere. Even Australian cricketer Shane Warne made a reel of his daughters dancing to the famous Saami Saami number - a song that made Srivalli, aka Rashmika, the heart-stopper of the nation.</p>

<p>Still, it is not just films that have brought Rashmika fame among both millennial and Gen-Z audiences; it is also the rumours of her pairings with her co-stars, something that no individual with celebrity status is spared, it seems. She has a simple perspective on these reports: When someone looks good on screen and people want to see more of them, people want to think that something is going on between them. At the beginning, it would bother me, but now I&#39;ve realised that this is a part of my life. You are an actor; you are a public figure and being a public figure means that they are involved in your life. You can&#39;t discard them when you don&#39;t want their views and ask them to come and watch your films when you need them; that doesn&#39;t happen. This is part and parcel of your life. Being a glass-half-full type of person, Rashmika believes that all this, at least, illustrates that people feel the chemistry with a co-star is working.</p>

<p>Despite spending a major part of her life making movies, Rashmika describes herself as a private person, someone who is not very comfortable showing her real emotions. This is sort of my weakness, she admits. There have been several instances when I have broken down - never in public, of course - but I have had my moments. She has been through her share of ups and downs that the outside world hasn&#39;t witnessed, but it is the love she has received from her tribe that keeps her going. I have so much love from so many people, and it gets me through the hard times, she enthuses. Honestly, when you are at your lowest, you have all these people in your life, your friends, family and people telling you that, reminding you of the love and you get better. Time heals, she says, and we agree. The world might consider her the queen of expression on screen, but, in real life, she also has storms brewing within.</p>

<p>Still, Rashmika doesn&#39;t believe that downers and extreme lows are something exclusive to people with occupied lives, busy schedules or celebrity status. Everyone you meet is dealing with something; you just do the best that you can and remember that you are blessed, she adds with a deep breath. If you are able to breathe, you are able to do what you want to do, and you have your family, you have yourself, you can make it. If I can make it, you can make it. Challenges come and go; they are a part of life get used to them, welcome them. Once you win over that, you realise that you&#39;re stronger than you thought you were.</p>
