Listening to two globally-acclaimed musicians talk about their craft can be intoxicating to the point of making you wish you could also write lyrics and compose songs. Recently, Femina brought together Lauv and Prateek Kuhad for one such conversation as they were gearing up to release singles from their upcoming albums, All 4 Nothing and The Way That Lovers Do respectively. In a free-flowing chat that lasted for an hour, the two discussed their songwriting process, working through the pandemic, their newfound scepticism about using social media, Lauv’s experience working in Bollywood, and more. But, more importantly, they made plans to hang out in person soon, and what we would not give to be a fly on the wall when that happens!
While you can watch the full conversation on Femina’s YouTube channel – and we highly recommend that you do – below is an excerpt from one of the most insightful parts of their chat.
Prateek was in Seattle, the US, for three months last year working on his new record. Lauv’s parents live in Seattle, and he also worked on his new album through COVID, so the conversation transitioned seamlessly from there into how the two write their songs.
LAUV: How did you like being in Seattle? My parents live there.
PRATEEK: Oh yeah? It was good. I’ve never been before. I was mostly just holed up in the studio literally the whole time. So, I saw almost nothing of the city.
LAUV: How did you find that experience? Living in the studio?
