The courtship rituals of homo sapiens, as seen on ITV2’s Love Island, have had the nation gripped this Summer. But if you think human love lives are complicated, they are nothing compared to what the animal kingdom gets up to in the quest for a mate.
In the first of a new three-part wildlife series about how animals’ apparent ‘bad behaviour’ can be the secret of their survival, Liz Bonnin starts by showing how various species use ingenious and, at times, fiendish ploys in order to successfully pair off and breed.
