NEW DRAMA
Trackers Friday, Sky Atlantic HD, 9pm
The producers of Sky Atlantic’s new action drama Trackers were faced with plenty of challenges while filming the South African thriller – from staging showstopping explosions to dramatic car chases and gun battles.
But the film crew and cast didn’t ever envisage being caught up in the middle of stampeding rhinos in the middle of the night…
‘One of the earliest scenes in Trackers involves smuggling black rhinos, and the whole sequence turned into a nightmare,’ explains director Jyri Kähönen.
‘We were in the middle of shooting when one of our rhinos just went berserk, raving mad. We had to grab everything we could carry in our hands – like 100 people there in the middle of the night – and then run for our lives.’
The twisty five-part political thriller was a huge success when it was shown in South Africa, drawing a bigger audience than Game of Thrones.
Interweaving three storylines, it begins with the Presidential Bureau of Intelligence (PBI) launching a covert investigation into a terrorist plot to attack Cape Town after a police informant is executed by Islamic extremists.
