It’s Renée Zellweger as you’ve never seen her before this week, when the two-time Oscar-winner portrays a real-life killer in US crime drama The Thing about Pam.
The six-part series, landing on Paramount+, is based on the murder of Betsy Faria, who was found stabbed to death in her home in Troy, Missouri, in December 2011.
The last person to see Betsy alive was her close friend, life-insurance administrator Pam Hupp – and it was testimony from Hupp that was pivotal in Betsy’s husband, Russ, being convicted of the crime and jailed.
But following an appeal and second trial in 2015, Russ was exonerated – and the finger of suspicion began to point at Hupp when it was revealed she was the beneficiary of a big life insurance payout when Betsy died.
