NEW DRAMA
Chloe Sun & Mon, BBC1 HD, 9 pm
In BBC1’s compelling new psychological drama Chloe, Erin Doherty plays troubled Bristol-based office temp Becky Green, who seeks refuge from her humdrum, isolated existence by browsing social media.
As she scrolls through posts of people sharing their seemingly perfect lives, she grows fixated on following every move of glamorous Chloe Fairbourne (Poppy Gilbert), a mysterious face from her past. But when she then sees a post about Chloe’s sudden death from suicide, she is left reeling…
GOING UNDERCOVER
‘Becky has had a difficult upbringing, which has resulted in a strange, toxic, co-dependent relationship with her mum, who now, unfortunately, has early onset dementia,’ says Doherty, best known for playing Princess Anne in The Crown. ‘So Becky is stuck. She isn’t a full-time carer, but she knows that she’s going to have to be one day, and she’s running away from it. So when Chloe dies, that catapults her somewhere else.’
As Becky becomes hell-bent on finding out why Chloe died, she takes on the fictional guise of successful ‘Sasha’ and goes to extreme lengths to infiltrate the lives of those who knew Chloe best – from her widower, aspiring politician Elliot, to her closest friend Livia and their fun-loving old pal Richard.
‘She behaves in crazy ways. But she is hooked on figuring things out and feels like she’s serving Chloe because no one else seems to be,’ reveals Doherty, 29.
