The Open Championship returns to Royal St George’s for the first time since 2011 this week when reigning champion Shane Lowry defends his title at the historic links course in Sandwich, Kent.

The tournament was cancelled in 2020 because of the pandemic, but organisers are hopeful that the 149th edition of golf’s oldest major will be played out in front of 32,000 fans on each of the four days – 80% of the 40,000 capacity.
