Kicking off a year of soap anniversaries, this week we say happy birthday to EastEnders, which celebrates 35 years of shocks and surprises – the biggest one of which might be the fact that so many residents still don’t own a washing machine. And how are the show’s bosses marking the occasion? Why, they’re killing someone off!
To be fair, though, this isn’t any old soap death, and this week’s episodes are a far cry from our usual trips to Walford. The drama is focused not in Albert Square but at a boat party on the Thames, and all four instalments take place on the same day. The first three episodes focus on different characters and events leading up to a tragic incident on board, while Friday’s show deals with the aftermath.
