The first series of BBC2’s charming comedy Mum was captivating, with its poignant will-they won’t-they romance between widow Cathy (Lesley Manville) and adoring family friend Michael (Peter Mullan). We feared the second series could never live up to our expectations.

We needn’t have worried though, as we’ve laughed and sobbed through the current run even more than before. In this week’s finale, there’s only one question on our minds – will Cathy and Michael finally get together?

Here, Lisa McGrillis, who plays Kelly, the girlfriend of Cathy’s son Jason (Sam Swainsbury), reveals exclusively to TV Times why everyone has taken Mum to their hearts and what lies ahead…

Tell us about the finale?

It’s Bonfire Night and Jason has suspicions about Cathy and Michael and is unhappy about it. There’s a cliffhanger, but I hope the audience find it a satisfying end because it is frustrating watching two people who are blatantly in love with each other, but avoiding saying it.
