Liam Charles on why he loves his job, guilty pleasures and taking advice from his mum

‘It's always a good vibe!'

Liam Charles is relishing every second of co-hosting the current series of C4’s ever-popular culinary competition Bake Off: The Professionals.

Here, Liam, 23 – the breakout star of The Great British Bake Off 2017 thanks to his flavour combos and cheeky personality – reveals why it’s a dream job, and tells us what his professional wrestling name would be…

This is your fourth series on Bake Off: The Professionals – how do you feel you’ve grown as a presenter?

The first year I really wanted to get it right straight away, and if I fluffed a word, I’d beat myself up. I would have rehearsed it so many times and got so frustrated when it went wrong. I always aim for perfection, but it’s human nature to make mistakes. This year, I’ve been more relaxed. I think this is the best series I’ve done, in terms of me being 100% me.

You have a great chemistry with your co-host, comedian Tom Allen…

We got on so well from the word go. If you click with somebody, it can only get better. Onset, when we see something funny, we just raise an eyebrow at each other and then try not to crack up. We have a very similar sense of humour. In the grand scheme of things, it is a job – but it doesn’t feel like work at all.

What do you like best about working with the show’s judges, Cherish Finden and Benoit Blin?

I love their sense of humour and how good they are at their jobs; I have huge respect for them. You can have a great time with them; it’s a really good vibe!

What’s the fanciest patisserie you have made recently?
