The Good Karma Hospital

SUNDAY / ITV / 9PM

Amanda Redman sits on the balcony of a TV production office in sunny Sri Lanka, going over her lines while grabbing a few bites of a vegetable dal during her lunch break.

‘This stuff is wonderful,’ she says. ‘Would you like to try a bit?’ TV Times has been invited on set for the second series of ITV’s popular medical drama The Good Karma Hospital, and it’s clear that Amanda has taken to life in the tropics with the same enthusiasm as her character.

Amanda has enjoyed leading roles in a host of mainstream shows during her stellar career, but few seem to fit as comfortably as that of Dr Lydia Fonseca.

Last year she won the hearts of millions of viewers with her portrayal of The Good Karma Hospital’s wonderfully eccentric head doctor, and the second series, which began last week, looks set to be another triumph.

Here, Amanda, 60, tells us why this role means so much to her…

What can you tell us about Lydia’s journey this year?
