TV Times is standing outside a rain-swept church in the Scottish countryside as David Walliams bustles around sporting a 1980sstyle moustache, while Sir Tom Courtenay, also with impressive facial furniture, gets ready to film.

We’re on set for a star-studded adaptation of David’s much-loved children’s novel Grandpa’s Great Escape, which is set in the 1980s and centres on young Jack (Kit Connor) and his Grandpa (Sir Tom), a former World War Two pilot who suffers from Alzheimer’s.

When Jack’s parents, played by Samantha Spiro and David, send Grandpa to live in chilling old people’s home Twilight Towers, run by terrifying Miss Dandy (Jennifer Saunders), the elderly war hero makes a bid for freedom with Jack’s help.
