The spectacular Castlewellan Castle, overlooking a lake in the County Down countryside, is a great spot for TV Times to be ‘on location’.

In front of us, Jessie Buckley, sporting culottes and a dashing red waistcoat, stomps down a room filled with antiques before giving Charles Dance – who is wearing an elaborate dressing gown and curly wig – a piece of her mind.

We’re on set for BBC1’s sumptuous five-part adaptation of Wilkie Collins’ Victorian thriller The Woman in White. The tale centres on artistWalter Hartright (Ben Hardy), who goes to work at Limmeridge House in Cumberland, which Castlewellan Castle is standing in for.

Its self-centred owner Frederick Fairlie (played by Charles) charges Walter with the task of teaching his sweet niece Laura (Apple Tree Yard’s Olivia Vinall) and her spirited half-sister Marian Halcombe (played by Jessie) to paint.

However, before he sets off, Walter is walking across a London heath when a fragile woman dressed in white begs for his help.
