Consisting of members of Cave In, Converge and High On Fire, the punk-meets-metal beast that is Mutoid Man has awakened from a six-year slumber to offer up the riff-packed, tonally adventurous third album Mutants, released on July 28. Guitarist/vocalist Stephen Brodsky tells TG what they're aiming for: "The more robotic, futuristic and mind-melty, the better!"
Do Mutoid Man songs always start with a riff?
Being such a guitar-driven band, riffs are a prime weapon in our songwriting arsenal. If I just feel like playing guitar and I get that urge, I go into this mindless zone of what my fingers feel like doing. If it feels exciting, I roll with it! Usually, a vocal comes out of that.
