When Buffalo Tom released their third album, in 1992, they were only one of countless American bands poised for a breakout in the wake of this new thing called alternative rock. Although its creators hailed from the other side of America – Boston, as opposed to Seattle – Let Me Come Over sounded angst-ridden but radiofriendly, with singles like the harrowing “Taillights Fade” and the breakneck “Velvet Roof” marrying the urgency of punk with the precision of pop and the swagger of classic rock.
