TV star Katlego Maboe is at the centre of a cheating scandal. His ex’s best friend spoke to YOU

‘HE'S NOT THE GUY YOU SEE ON TV'
TO MILLIONS of South Africans, he was the friendly face on breakfast TV, the guy with the infectious grin and boyish charm on adverts for an insurance giant.

Katlego Maboe seemed to have a bright future ahead of him. He was widely regarded as one of the best TV presenters in the business and has two SA Film and Television awards under his belt to prove it.

But how things have changed. The 33-year-old has now been suspended from Expresso, the SABC3 morning show where he was a presenter, and OUTsurance has removed all ads in which he features.

Since an explosive video filmed by his ex, Monique Muller (30), appeared online Katlego has become one of the most spoken-about celebrities in the land – for all the wrong reasons.

South Africans were stunned when Monique accused Katlego of sleeping with another woman in the video – and he admits it. She also accuses him of giving her a sexually transmitted disease and claims he has resorted to violence.

In the days that followed, Monique found herself the victim of online bullies who berated her for airing her dirty laundry in public and ruining Katlego’s career.

Which is why Jackie Davis*, Monique’s best friend of the past 11 years, decided to speak out. Her friend is being made out to be the villain and it’s not fair, she says.

“There’s a side to Katlego that people don’t know,” she tells us, speaking on condition of anonymity. “We as friends can’t just stand back and let her be bullied.”
