Creating a nostalgic roster of popular song covers via YouTube, the New York native was quickly launched into the spotlight as her sweet and sultry voice attracted audiences worldwide. Since then, the artist has independently released her debut EP As She Pleases in 2018 and the hit single “Dear Society” in May. Beer is currently working on her new album, expected to release later this year. But just a fair warning, you may have to wait a little longer than you expected.
BASIC: Tell us about your upbringing, what it was like growing up and what sparked your passion for music.
MADISON: My entire life, I have always had an interest in music and loved music, and it used to always be a hobby rather than something I was doing professionally, but I always kind of knew it was what I wanted to do in life. When I was in school and they asked me what I wanted to do when I was older, I would always say a singer. It was always something that I loved. It didn’t really become a job until I was around 10 years old. I started professionally training and taking it really seriously. My parents were always super supportive and I got signed when I was 12. It’s been really awesome.
BASIC: You garnered the attention of Justin Bieber after posting a YouTube video of your cover of “At Last” by Etta James. Since then, you’ve established an incredibly successful career for yourself. Can you talk to us about this journey?
MADISON: I don’t work with him anymore, but he discovered me when I was 13 and signed me to his label. He definitely gave me a lot of inspiration and a lot of push. I will always be grateful for him seeing something in me when I was super young. It was so awesome to work with him.
