Sri Lanka equals serendipity. And no, it’s not just the name of a New York bakery and a John Cusack movie. The word serendipity (‘happy accident’) comes from serendib, an old name for Sri Lanka. It’s a fitting expression for the-happy-go-lucky fatalism that governs life here. At the heart of the island country is its cuisine. Through years of colonisation and influence from other countries, Sri Lanka has adapted its food culture into a blend of different curry concoctions and tasty dishes. And while rice and curry is the staple, there’s more than what meets the eye.
