I get on a call with Rahul Mishra less than 24 hours after images of Zendaya, who wore a look fresh off the runway from his Spring 2020 couture show, have become cyber click-bait. The young actor wore a sheer 3D hand-embroidered long jacket in gossamer organza with ivory leaves sprouting from the sleeves over black taffeta trousers. In November last year, the designer was invited as a ‘guest member’ by The Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture, the presiding body of the French fashion industry, making him the first Indian designer to have earned this distinction. “It’s a very exciting time,” he says, “as a new entrant and being the youngest brand on the couture calendar. Zendaya is somebody who perfectly epitomises a multicultural background. She is extremely intelligent and is constantly creating an impact on the younger generation.”
