WE CHAT PUSHING BEAUTY BOUNDARIES WITH THE GLOBAL MAKE-UP STAR
As a tattoo artist, how did you come to work with cosmetics?
There wasn’t really a transition into make-up—for me, it’s just a different medium. There are so many similarities between tattooing and make-up artistry, it actually made sense I would be good at it. I [was] tattooing portraits of people, so I understand the use of shade and light, how to contour to make something look deeper, and how to highlight something to make it look like it’s coming forward. About 10 years ago, Sephora approached me about doing a make-up line together, and I think at the time people were just kind of in awe of the girl on the tattoo show with the red lipstick, so it sparked some curiosity. Sure enough, we had a creative meeting and I think I really shocked them when I unleashed my passion about make-up.
