I was fortunate that my parents were quite rock and roll; and were liberated. It also made me the person I am today… accepting, honest, and real. There was always open conversation and communication where hard truth was encouraged. We were more friends than parents and children, and so my childhood, which had its share of slaps and being whacked by slippers (or whatever else came in my mother’s hands), was everything I could ever dream.

My mum is a crystal healer. She's out there, talking about astral projection, spirit animals, other worlds and energy. She works hard, and is always educating herself. She's one of the most amazing and powerful women I know. My father is the life of the party. We share our birth date, so there is something super special. My dad can make friends with anyone, and this is something I have learnt from him. How to adapt to any situation. To be like water. As I grow older I see my parents, their strengths and their flaws, and I recognise those traits in myself. Now I am working hard to keep the best from the both of them.

Growing up, I didn't really have much to rebel against. My mum knew exactly what I was up to most of the times. I would get a scolding for staying out late or talking on the phone too much. My mum started keeping the phone from where she could see it directly from her room. I borrowed another one from a friend and opened up the wires and attached both instruments to our phone line so that one was always within my mother’s view, and the other was under the table and I used that one for chatting with my friends. I always figured a way around things I wasn't allowed to do.
