FRESH PICKS
Just like her bubbly personality, Binag reflects the same attitude when it comes to choosing colors for her style
Bayanihan is a unique Filipino trait that we could all be proud of. When our fellowmen are down, it is our own helping hands that are able to lift them. This value has created a sense of community and a connection between people that no challenge can ever overcome. We saw this value practiced even more this year when the pandemic hit. As much as it exposed human folly, it has also brought light to those whose kind hearts never fail to rise up and help. One of those women is Cathy Binag.
FOR KEEPS
One of Binag’s favorite brands is Sacai which adds a bit of edge to her classic wardrobe
At the onset of the pandemic Binag was quick to take action in finding ways to help fellow Filipinos, especially frontliners. The lack of supplies from PPEs to face masks was immediately evident. At the onset of the pandemic, Binag came with a solution with her connections to figure out what fabrics and patterns were needed to make protective wear impenetrable. Together with designer friend Puey Quiñones, they soon created protective wear that frontliners can wear all over the country. Aside from this, they also distributed tens of thousands of face shield materials as well as warm meals and ethyl alcohol to frontliners. Puey Quiñones had this to say about Binag: “She is more than a friend. She is more of a sister to me. She is a woman with a heart of gold. From helping the frontliners and hospitals with supplies, she has also extended her kindess to the Philippine fashion industry.”
