In a very candid interview, Elvin Ng talks about the highlights from his decade-long career and addresses some pesky rumours.
You’ve been in the industry for over a decade now. Are there roles of which you are looking to do more?
The style of shows and roles are more casual now. I miss the more melodramatic productions. I’m used to playing the guy next door and the squeaky-clean person, but I think there’s a rawer side to me that I want to explore more of. I’m not the most polished person. I’m not saying I want to play a psychotic killer or something extreme – because extremism is easier to portray. I hope for more diversity in my roles, so I’m not just what people see me as.
Congratulations on being named an All-Time Favourite Artiste this year, by the way.
I’ve been blessed since the first year. I guess all I can say is, I look forward to the next 10 years, and besides wanting to land different types of roles, I’m hoping to connect with the audience on a deeper level, compared to when I was a younger actor. Moving to the big screen or going more regional would be good, but I think gradual growth is key – I’m not here to deliberately break boundaries.
What are some of your favourite roles thus far?
