As restaurants begin to think outside the box and beyond the plate, it has become even more apparent that besides feeding one’s phone gallery, he has to firstly feed himself. However, engineering a new menu takes a lot of work — one has to consider the finicky tastes of the average Singaporean (R.I.P. to all the establishments we have loved before) or the micro-trends that have macro effects. Once upon a time, small-plates-for-sharing were a trend that led to inventory managers calculating budget, stomach and table space down to the exact cent.

In the case of Marina Bay Sands’s all-day restaurant RISE, the new menu is literal and linear. The overarching concept of a truly great place to dine out still holds strong, but the change is in the familiarity and the flourish of how they have elevated local favourites.
