NO WALKING ALLOWED
Kim Jones made his models stand during the Dior Men Autumn/ Winter 2019 show in Paris. Under a cluster of spotlights, they posed as human mannequins on an end-to-end 250-foot-long treadmill. “The idea was they became like statues, standing there as they do in the couture salon,” Jones said. Upon entering the hall, guests were greeted by the massive word ‘DIOR’ painted by Raymond Pettibon, the American contemporary artist who worked with Jones for the season’s collection.
HOME SWEET HOME
Alessandro Michele has brought his guests to many unexpected places before such as a disused theatre in Paris and an ancient Roman cemetery. Returning to the Gucci hub in Milan, Michele presented the Gucci Autumn/Winter 2019 collection in a curving interior venue with the walls covered in more than 120,000 blinding LED lightbulbs. Guests were seated in a six-tier mirrored bench at the center of the hall. Sounds of dogs barking at the beginning of the show were followed by a low definite pitch of bass drum that synchronized to the lights before the models entered along with an operatic soundtrack.
