Four things you need to stop obsessing over – and what you should channel your energies on instead.
GETTING RICH
Let’s get one thing straight: we’re not saying money isn’t important – everyone needs it to live. But the truth of the matter is, there’s actually a finite amount that you need to live comfortably and feel content. If you’re new to the workforce, our advice is this: focus on building your career instead of fixating on the numbers in your bank account. It’s easy to get caught up in the rat race and start worrying about financing your first car, home etc, but the early years of your career are monumental in developing yourself professionally. Use the time to hone your skills, finetune your work ethics, establish networks and learn more about your industry (or different industries) instead. Don’t worry if you don’t know what to do with your life or are feeling lost – the answer won’t come overnight, and definitely not by sticking to a single job, company or industry. In this age, most people jump between jobs and industries until they find the right fit. Can’t find your calling or something you’re passionate about? Figure out what you’re good at and become better at that. As Mario Cuomo, the 52nd Governor of New York, once said, “Money creates opportunity, but all that matters is what you use it for. If you make life about your appetites, you will always be hungering for more.”
